SO WHAT IS MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY?

The type of Muscular Dystrophy with which we are familiar is called Becker. However, this is but one of a group of neuromuscular degenerative diseases affecting 1 in 1,000 people in Australia. All cause the lifelong progressive degeneration and wasting of muscles. Drew and others affected by the disease have a mutation in their genetic makeup that prevents the maintenance and repair of muscle tissue.

Australian researchers are making world class break throughs in understanding Muscular Dystrophy and our research institutes are engaging in international clinical trials. These discoveries have meant many people with muscular dystrophy are enjoying an extended life and a better quality of life. Funding to support this vital research will ensure that a cure is found and sufferers and their families will soon not have to deal with the devastating impact of muscular dystrophy.
